Crisis24 is U-M’s political and natural disaster evacuation assistance provider that is contracted through the GeoBlue (BCBS Global) Travel Abroad Health Insurance. To receive this coverage, travelers must have the U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance (GeoBlue/BCBS Global) plan for the duration of their travel, register their travel, and meet other conditions outlined below for higher risk locations. All evacuation decisions are made in coordination between the U-M Global Engagement Team and GeoBlue (BCBS Global).
Important: Crisis24 designates some locations as higher risk and requires travelers to complete the Crisis24 Prior Approval Request form in order to be eligible for political and natural disaster evacuation coverage. Details listed below.
There is a possibility that Crisis24 denies an evacuation coverage request. U-M discourages travel abroad without evacuation coverage. If you choose to travel abroad without evacuation coverage, U-M cannot provide evacuation support. If you choose to travel without evacuation coverage while on U-M Related Travel, you must follow the pre-approval process outlined in the “Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Students Traveling with No Evacuation Coverage on UMRT” section.
