Important: Crisis24, U-M’s political and natural disaster evacuation assistance provider, will not provide evacuation coverage for the United Arab Emirates for the foreseeable future. Travelers who go to the United Arab Emirates without Crisis24 approved evacuation coverage cannot be evacuated by U-M. (See details below and on the U-M Crisis24 page.)

Student Eligibility & Requirements

The United Arab Emirates currently has a Travel Restriction rating.

Undergraduate students are prohibited from traveling to a Travel Restriction destination for University of Michigan Related Travel (UMRT).
Graduate students: Since evacuation support is not available, U-M discourages travel and will not support travel unless the graduate student’s U-M Related Travel is urgent and critical and they complete the following requirements:
1. Register your travel with U-M (For students who applied for their program through M-Compass, your program application is your travel registration.)
2. Complete the U-M Liability Waiver for Locations with No Evacuation Coverage acknowledging that you accept traveling without political or natural-disaster evacuation coverage and that you understand that U‑M cannot provide evacuation support for this travel.
  - The Global Engagement Team will contact the International Travel Dean’s Designee of your home school/college to verify support of your travel as urgent and compelling.
3. For individual travel abroad, submit an Individual Safety Plan at least 6 weeks before departure. (See Travel Health Plan & Safety Plan Process for details.)
  - For students participating in Group Travel Abroad, your group leader will submit a “Group Safety Plan” on behalf of the participants, meaning individual students do NOT need to submit an Individual Safety Plan. (See Group Travel Requirements for details.)
4. Enroll in U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance for the travel duration.
5. Follow college/unit-specific travel approval steps, if any.

Faculty & Staff Requirements

Current U-M Faculty and Staff on U-M related travel abroad are automatically covered under U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance for the travel duration.
