International Travel during Spring Break

February 28, 2025

Dear U-M Community Members,

With spring break around the corner, you may be planning international travel. To support safe travel, we encourage all U-M students, staff, and current faculty traveling abroad to register travel and enroll in travel abroad health insurance. Though mandatory for those on U-M Related Travel (UMRT), U-M travel resources are available for U-M faculty, staff, and students traveling abroad for personal reasons such as vacation.

Follow the steps below to ensure you have the resources and support you may need:

  1. Register your international trip with U-M. Travel registration takes just minutes and allows U-M to locate and assist U-M travelers abroad in the event of a health, safety, or security crisis.
  2. Ensure you are covered by GeoBlue, U-M travel abroad health and evacuation insurance, even if you are traveling for vacation. The cost is less than $2 per day.
    • U-M students and current faculty and staff traveling internationally for personal reasons can purchase the GeoBlue (Leisure Plan).
    • Partners, spouses, and dependents under the age of 26 traveling with you are also eligible for coverage.
  1. Review International Center guidance if you are in the U.S. as an F-1 student or J-1 student or scholar who plans to travel abroad.

For travel safety questions, please contact global.safety@umich.edu.

Best wishes over your Spring Break,

Valeria Bertacco, Vice Provost for Engaged Learning
Patrick Morgan, Chief International Travel Safety Officer, Office of the Provost
