Student Perspective: Mariam in London

“One thing that genuinely surprised me was the profound sense of independence that seeped into my daily life. Navigating a new city, managing finances, and tackling unforeseen challenges sharpened my problem-solving skills in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Moreover, I was astonished at the number of international students at my host university, exposing me to more diverse cultures than I had expected.

As for core memories, there are so many. My first time on a double-decker London bus, trying proper English food for the first time (not my cup of tea), hiking up the hill at Greenwich Park for the view, taking a Spanish class with students from all over the world – these and many more hold a special place in my heart. If I could turn back time, I might have pushed myself even further outside my comfort zone and taken more solo days to explore the city. There’s always more to see and experience, right?

Studying abroad undeniably elevated my academic skills. Engaging with diverse perspectives honed my critical thinking, and adapting to different educational systems enhanced my versatility. Professionally, it opened doors and expanded my network, proving to be a valuable asset in pursuing my career goals. Regardless of the occasional homesickness, I would, without a doubt, recommend studying abroad. It’s a transformative journey that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. The lessons learned, friendships forged, and the self-discovery that unfolds – it’s an investment in yourself for a lifetime.”
