Student Perspective: Anika in Sydney

“My study abroad experience was incredibly invaluable and impactful. Going to a new country completely alone with no familiar friends or family was very daunting, but the best decision I have ever made. After five months in Sydney, Australia, I left with a group of the best friends I have ever known, and I am so glad our paths crossed during this time. I have a group of Australian friends that I still talk to every day and new friends who were also studying abroad from schools all over America and Europe. Studying abroad expanded my connections and relationships greatly, but it also allowed me to build a stronger connection with myself. This experience helped me grow into myself and learn who I am at my core.

When I came to Australia, there was a lot of uncertainty in my life. I gained clarity while studying abroad from being forced into an unfamiliar place out of my comfort zone. It opened my eyes to what the world has to offer and helped me find myself. My favorite experience was sitting in the car while my friend was driving us across the South Island of New Zealand. While peering out of the car windows, my friend and I saw the night begin to fall. Millions of stars lit up the sky as the lack of light pollution allows the stars to be completely visible. This moment was indescribable and so beautiful!”
