Turkmenistan

Requirements vary depending on the travel destination, sometimes even within a country, and depending on your status as a student or faculty/staff member. Steps include:

  1. Risk Level: Determine whether the city/s or location/s you will visit are in Travel Health Low Risk, Travel Health Medium Risk, Travel Health High Risk, U-M Travel Warning, or a U-M Travel Restriction area.
  2. Eligibility: Determine your travel eligibility for your specific travel location/s.
  3. Requirements: Complete requirements as detailed in sections below. Students who have applied for a U-M program through M-Compass will complete their requirements within their M-Compass program application.

U-M Travel Requirements per SPG 601.31:

Undergraduate Student International Travel Requirements

Travel to a U-M Travel Restriction destination: Travel is prohibited at this time.

Travel to a U-M High Risk destination: Travel is prohibited at this time (Rare exceptions for students on U-M Managed Programs approved by ITOC. Eligible students would be notified.)

Travel to a Travel Health Low Risk, Travel Health Medium Risk, or U-M Travel Warning destination: Undergraduate students on U-M Related Travel must complete the following requirements before travel:

  1. Register Your Travel
    Register travel with U-M and obtain U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance: https://global.umich.edu/travel-resources/register-your-travel/

    • For students who applied for their program through M-Compass, your program application is your travel registration.
  2. Review Risk Designation Requirements
    Additional requirements depend on the risk designation of your specific travel destination/s within the country.

  3. Follow the U-M Vaccination Policy
    Review the policy on the U-M Health Response website.
  4. Follow college/unit-specific travel approval steps, if any.
  5. Review the Additional Considerations for International Travel, which includes:
    • Verifying your ability to enter a country and meeting additional travel health-related entry requirements, if any. See the “Entry, Exit, and Visa Requirements” section of the U.S. Department of State’s Country Information page of your destination/s.
    • Having a financial and logistics plan in the event you must self-isolate / quarantine either before, during, or after your intended travel dates, which may mean delaying your return to the United States.

NOTES:

  1. Travel registration or Safety Plan/Travel Health Plan Approval does not imply travel approval by your college. Colleges may cancel travel at any time and have additional requirements for their travelers.
  2. Students who are on “Group Travel Abroad” do not need to register their own travel or complete a safety / travel health plan since their sponsoring U-M department or the program leader will complete a GROUP Safety Plan for international travel (for Program Leaders) on the student participants’ behalf. Graduate Student International Travel Requirements

Travel to a Travel Health Low Risk, Travel Health Medium Risk, Travel Health High Risk, U-M Travel Warning, or U-M Travel Restriction destination:

Faculty/Staff International Travel Requirements

The U-M suspension of non-essential travel has been revoked, effective July 1, 2021. Faculty and staff should follow school, college, unit specific travel approval steps, if any.

  1. The Provost Office in consultation with the International Travel Oversight Committee determines the risk level of a location using a variety of sources, including: US Department of State Travel Advisories, CDC Travel Notices, CDC COVID-19 risk levels, other non-U.S. government advisories, U-M’s assistance provider’s risk ratings, and COVID-19 vaccination rates.  Countries are assessed at least once a month.
