HIV IN CHINESE MSM

May 9, 2018
Written by

The HIV epidemic in Chinese men who have sex with men is rising rapidly. But currently there is no reliable way to measure new infection rates by age or diagnosis rates by age and stage of infection. A new approach to fitting HIV transmission models directly to HIV sequence data has been developed by researchers at the University of Michigan (RA Smith, EL Ionides, AA King. Infectious Disease Dynamics Inferred from Genetic Data via Sequential Monte Carlo. Molecular Biology and Evolution, April 2017). In a collaborative effort with the Chinese National CDC, Data from two major metropolitan areas are being analyzed with these new methods to see if they can provide the key data to provide the estimates needed to guide control efforts.
