“Across Qinghai, Tibetan grassland families come together once a year. This family meets along the nascent Lancang (Mekong) river. They sing, eat and dance for 10 days in the summer. Everyone is invited. It is customary to sing a song as people drape scarves over your head in respect, and this new friend had just asked me to sing in front of his 300 member family.”
