This photo was taken by Brigitte Smith, an undergraduate in College of Literature, Science and the Arts majoring in International Studies in Gujarat, India.  About the photo, she said:

“A young family sits on their porch while the infant naps in the makeshift hammock. From tradition and lack of mobility, this young family lives with her parents-in-law on the outskirts of the slums without plumbing or electricity. Her children may not have access to education, moreover their neighborhood is at risk to be torn down due to corporate development projects. They are one of the many testaments to the cycle of poverty that I recorded while conducting research on behalf of a local non profit organization.”
