“At the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, 60,000 to 100,000 people are served a free vegetarian and nutritious meal every day. All of the food is donated, and all of the work is volunteered. We volunteered in the community kitchen in the Golden Temple for a month. Before this particular photo was taken, we got up at 3 a.m. to go to the farmer’s market, where we bought 3,500 pounds of food to donate to the Golden Temple. Since everything was fresh and in season, the food only cost us US$1,000, which is about 10 cents per serving. While we were unloading the food into the kitchen, there was a tiny spill and I caught this action shot!”
