Guatemalans in the rural countryside load their supplies on top of the “chicken bus,”a common mode of transportation in Guatemala. The buses are retired vehicles from American school systems that are shipped to Guatemala for reuse in public transportation. Each owner will personalize the bus to create a unique identity. Occasionally, attendants to the driver of the bus can be found “surfing” the roof while organizing luggage en route.
