The picture was taken by Olivia Herbert in Java Indonesia.
She said the picture was taken at an inlet right next to the Indian Ocean where local farmers planted Mangrove trees to filter the salt water to prevent erosion in the area.
“I knew very little about Indonesia before traveling there, nor did many of my family and friends. I sent this picture to my mom shortly after I took it and I think it made her feel better. We are so divided by differences and all that we don’t know, but there is beauty everywhere and we’re never going to find that out unless we travel and see for ourselves.”
The photo was a winner in CGIS photo competition.
