The Global Engagement U.S. Passport Grant Program is designed to provide financial support to U-M students seeking to obtain their first U.S. Passport. For many students, the cost of a passport represents the first financial hurdle to participating in a study abroad program. By removing this barrier, the program aims to make global experiences more accessible to all students. A valid passport is a critical first step in unlocking a wide range of international opportunities, including study abroad, internships, research, volunteer service, competitions, and academic conferences.
Eligibility
The Global Engagement U.S. Passport Grant Program is open to students from the U-M Ann Arbor campus who meet the following criteria:
International students and Green card holders, students who already have, or have ever had a U.S. Passport and students not yet enrolled at U-M are not eligible.
Passport Day
Students who are awarded the grant must be available for a one-hour appointment during the Passport Day event, which takes place on campus in early December. This event provides a convenient and supportive environment for students to complete the passport application process. Attendees will be able to have their passport photos taken, receive one-on-one assistance with their application, and submit all required materials directly to the Washtenaw County Clerk’s Office, which will be on-site to process applications. The event is designed to ensure that students have everything they need to successfully apply for their first U.S. passport.
