It is important that you keep your personal and university-owned data secure as you travel. Data stored on mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets and laptops are assets that individuals, organized crime and some foreign governments are increasingly looking to steal. By taking a few specific actions before, during and after your trip, you can protect the data on your devices.

Check out these helpful guidelines from U-M’s Information and Technology Services:

Global Wi-Fi access for U-M faculty, students and staff
U-M has joined eduroam, a free service that gives U-M faculty, students and staff easy and secure access to Wi-Fi networks when traveling abroad. Anyone with a U-M email address and UMICH password can select the eduroam Wi-Fi network on their laptop or smartphone when visiting another eduroam-enabled institution. Before traveling to your destination, configure and test eduroam on your device(s) from the U-M campus. See a full list of participating institutions and more information.
